THE II WITNESSES

In the Old Testament, “two or three witnesses” was needed

The Law Concerning Witnesses
“One witness shall not rise against a man concerning any iniquity or any sin that he commits; by the mouth of two or three witnesses the matter shall be established.
Deuteronomy 19.15

Jesus referred to this law concerning witnesses

But if he will not hear, take with you one or two more, that by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.’
Matthew 18.16

PROPHESY 1260 DAYS

The 144k may be a part of or are the “two witnesses” who “will prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days”

And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth.
Revelation 11.3

SACKCLOTH

And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth.”
Revelation 11.3

and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair
Revelation 6.12

The “two witnesses” will be “clothed in sackcloth”

“Sackcloth” could represent their low status in society, that they would not be dressed in expensive clothing

“Sackcloth” could also represent their spiritual sobriety because they each have a mission to complete within a limited time frame and there will be those who want to harm them

Be [c] sober (self-controlled), be [d] vigilant (watchful); because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
1 Peter 5.8

And if anyone wants to harm them, fire proceeds from their mouth and devours their enemies. And if anyone wants to harm them, he must be killed in this manner.
Revelation 11.5

In the Old Testament, those who covered themselves with “sackcloth and ashes” were in mourning and/or in repentance

They would put on sackcloth and sat and/or rolled about in ashes

This would make the sackcloth black in color

The “two witnesses” could be in mourning and/or repentance because they are in the Tribulation

Then I set my face toward the Lord God to make request by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes.
Daniel 9.3

and he arose from his throne and laid aside his robe, covered himself with sackcloth and sat in ashes.
Jonah 3.6

O daughter of my people,
Dress in sackcloth
And roll about in ashes!
Make mourning as for an only son,

Jeremiah 6.26

they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
Matthew 11.21

PAIRED UP

The 144k may be or be a part of the two witnesses in pairs

In Luke 10, Jesus sends 70 or 72 disciples in pairs, “two by two ahead of him”

Likewise, the 144k (and/or the “two witnesses”) may be sent in pairs ahead of His second coming

The Seventy Sent Out
After these things the Lord appointed [a]seventy (NU seventy-two others) others also, and sent them two by two before His face into every city and place where He Himself was about to go.
Luke 10.1

Jesus Sends Out the Seventy-Two
After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go.
Luke 10.1 NIV

70 or 72?

Wikipedia:
“The number is seventy in some manuscripts of the Alexandrian (such as Codex Sinaiticus) and Caesarean text traditions but seventy-two in most other Alexandrian and Western texts.”
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seventy_disciples

An interesting calculation if it was 72:

The 12 disciples x 6 = 72

6 = The 144k (may be a part of or are the “two witnesses”) may come from within the 6th of 7 churches (Rev 3)

72 x 2000 yrs = 144,000

~2000 years after Christ’s resurrection = The 144k may transform and begin their mission

• The foundation of the 12 disciples
• From within the 6th of 7 churches (Rev 3)
• ~2000 yrs after Christ’s resurrection

The 144k may transform and begin their mission ~2000 yrs after Christ’s resurrection

Note: The exact year of Christ’s resurrection is speculative

The 144k might be a part of the few workers who will work in the “harvest field”

“workers” = might be the 144k
“harvest”
= the unsaved
“field” = the world

Jesus Sends Out the Seventy-Two
After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. 2 He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. 3 Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves. 4 Do not take a purse or bag or sandals; and do not greet anyone on the road.
Luke 10.1 NIV

DEATH

“When they finish their testimony, the beast…will make war against them, overcome them, and kill them.”

When they finish their testimony, the beast that ascends out of the bottomless pit will make war against them, overcome them, and kill them.
Revelation 11.7

For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
Revelation 19.10

HOW THEY MAY BE KILLED

Since they kill by fire, they may also be killed by fire

fire proceeds from their mouth and devours their enemies.

And if anyone wants to harm them, fire proceeds from their mouth and devours their enemies. And if anyone wants to harm them, he must be killed in this manner.
Revelation 11.5

“he who kills with the sword must be killed with the sword.”

If anyone has an ear, let him hear. 10 He who leads into captivity shall go into captivity; he who kills with the sword must be killed with the sword.
Revelation 13.9-10

LOCATION THEY WILL BE KILLED

“And their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.”

When they finish their testimony, the beast that ascends out of the bottomless pit will make war against them, overcome them, and kill them. 8 And their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified. 9 Then those from the peoples, tribes, tongues, and nations will see their dead bodies three-and-a-half days, and not allow their dead bodies to be put into graves. 10 And those who dwell on the earth will rejoice over them, make merry, and send gifts to one another, because these two prophets tormented those who dwell on the earth.
Revelation 11.7

“the great city Babylon”

“Thus with violence the great city Babylon shall be thrown down, and shall not be found anymore.
Revelation 18.21

“The woman” = “that great city”

And the woman whom you saw is that great city which reigns over the kings of the earth.”
Revelation 17.18

“that great city Babylon”

‘Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city!
Revelation 18.10

THE SPIRIT OF PROPHECY

“Do not touch My anointed ones,
And do My prophets no harm.”
Psalm 105.15

The 144k, who may be a part of or are the “two witnesses” will be sealed

And I heard the number of those who were sealed. One hundred and forty-four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel were sealed:
Revelation 7.4

The “two witnesses” seem to be prophets because “they will prophesy” and the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”

And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth.”
Revelation 11.3

For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
Revelation 19.10

HOW THEY MAY BE ABLE TO BE KILLED

God’s prophets are protected:

“Do not touch My anointed ones,
And do My prophets no harm.”

Psalm 105.15

God will have to remove His protection
They will not love their lives to the death, but will be “faithful until death”

Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.
Revelation 2.10

And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.
Revelation 12.11

They will have to lay down their lives and die like Jesus laid down His life like a lamb to the slaughter

He was oppressed and He was afflicted,
Yet He opened not His mouth;
He was led as a lamb to the slaughter,
And as a sheep before its shearers is silent,

So He opened not His mouth.

Isaiah 53.7

After the 5th trumpet is sounded, the “locusts” are released to ‘torment men for five months’

God does not give the locusts “authority” to kill “men who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads”

1 And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit.
3 And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. 4 They were commanded not to harm the grass of the earth, or any green thing, or any tree, but only those men who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads. 5 And [b]they (the locusts) were not given authority to kill them, but to torment them for five months.
Revelation 9.1, 3

But after the 6th trumpet is sounded, God gives “the beast” “authority” to kill the “two witnesses”

‘The beast’ “will make war against them, overcome them and kill them”

“The beast that ascends out of the bottomless pit”

When they finish their testimony, the beast that ascends out of the bottomless pit will make war against them, overcome them, and kill them.
Revelation 11.7

“The beast” could be released after the fifth trumpet is sounded when “the bottomless pit” is first “opened”

Fifth Trumpet: The Locusts from the Bottomless Pit
Then the fifth angel sounded: And I saw a star fallen from heaven to the earth. To him was given the key to the bottomless pit. 2 And he opened the bottomless pit, and smoke arose out of the pit like the smoke of a great furnace. So the sun and the air were darkened because of the smoke of the pit.
Revelation 9.1

Jesus’ ministry is postulated by many Biblical scholars to have been approximately 3 1/2
years

The “two witnesses” ‘will prophesy 1260 days’ (~ 3 1/2 yrs)

And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth.”
Revelation 11.3

Jesus “has become the
firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep (died).”

But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have [d] fallen asleep (died).
1 Corinthians 15.20

The 144k arefirstfruits to God and to the Lamb”

being firstfruits to God and to the Lamb
Revelation 14.4

RESURRECTED

The two witnesses will die and be resurrected after “three-and-a-half days”

Now after the three-and-a-half days the breath of life from God entered them, and they stood on their feet, and great fear fell on those who saw them.
Revelation 11.11

Jesus was dead for “three days and three nights in the heart of the earth”

For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
Matthew 12.40

THE ASCENSION

On Ascension Day, Jesus “was taken up; and a cloud received Him”

Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up; and a cloud received Him out of their sight.
Acts 1.9

The two witnesses will also ascend to heaven but “in a cloud”

“The second woe is past.”

“Behold, the third woe is coming quickly.”

Now after the three-and-a-half days the breath of life from God entered them, and they stood on their feet, and great fear fell on those who saw them. 12 And they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, “Come up here.” And they ascended to heaven in a cloud, and their enemies saw them. 13 In the same hour there was a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell. In the earthquake seven thousand people were killed, and the rest were afraid and gave glory to the God of heaven.
14 The second woe is past. Behold, the third woe is coming quickly.
Revelation 11.11-14

Seventh Trumpet: The Kingdom Proclaimed
15 Then the seventh angel sounded: And there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!” 16 And the twenty-four elders who sat before God on their thrones fell on their faces and worshiped God, 17 saying:
“We give You thanks, O Lord God Almighty,
The One who is and who was and who is to come,
Because You have taken Your great power and reigned.
18 The nations were angry, and Your wrath has come,
And the time of the dead, that they should be judged,
And that You should reward Your servants the prophets and the saints,
And those who fear Your name, small and great,
And should destroy those who destroy the earth.”
Revelation 11.11, 15-18

CHURCH IN PHILADELPHIA KEPT FROM THE HOUR OF TRIAL

Jesus will keep those from the faithful church in Philadelphia who “have kept His command to persevere” from “the hour of trial”

‘The hour of trial’ might be the Tribulation or the 7 bowls of the wrath of God

Because you have kept [g]My command to persevere (Lit. the word of My patience), I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth.
Revelation 3.10

Seventh Seal: Prelude to the Seven Trumpets
When He opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and to them were given seven trumpets.
Revelation 8.1

It appears the 3 woes come after the 4th trumpet is sounded

Woe, woe, woe to the inhabitants of the earth, because of the remaining blasts of the trumpet of the three angels who are about to sound!”

Fourth Trumpet: The Heavens Struck
Then the fourth angel sounded: And a third of the sun was struck, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of them were darkened. A third of the day did not shine, and likewise the night.
13 And I looked, and I heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, “Woe, woe, woe to the inhabitants of the earth, because of the remaining blasts of the trumpet of the three angels who are about to sound!”

Sixth Trumpet: The Angels from the Euphrates
Then the sixth angel sounded: And I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God, 14 saying to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, “Release the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates.” 15 So the four angels, who had been prepared for the hour and day and month and year, were released to kill a third of mankind. 16 Now the number of the army of the horsemen was two hundred million; I heard the number of them. 17 And thus I saw the horses in the vision: those who sat on them had breastplates of fiery red, hyacinth blue, and sulfur yellow; and the heads of the horses were like the heads of lions; and out of their mouths came fire, smoke, and brimstone. 18 By these three plagues a third of mankind was killed—by the fire and the smoke and the brimstone which came out of their mouths.
Revelation 9.13

The two witnesses are killed and resurrected during the 2nd woe
