But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control [d] perseverance (patience), to perseverance godliness, 7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure,
for if you do these things you will never stumble.
2 Peter 1.5-10

“For we all stumble in many things.”

If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect (mature) man, able also to bridle the whole body.”

The Untamable Tongue
For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a [a] perfect (mature) man, able also to bridle the whole body. 3 Indeed, we put bits in horses’ mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body. 4 Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. 5 Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things.
James 3.2

“But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.”

But no man can tame the tongueIt is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the [f] similitude (likeness) of God.
James 3.8

“Do not let your mouth cause your flesh to sin

Do not let your mouth cause your flesh to sin
Ecclesiastes 5.6

“Keep sound wisdom and discretion;”

“Then you will walk safely in your way,
And your foot will not stumble.”

My son, let them not depart from your eyes–
Keep sound wisdom and discretion;
22 So they will be life to your soul
And grace to your neck.
23 Then you will walk safely in your way,
And your foot will not stumble.
Proverbs 3.21-23

“I have taught you in the way of wisdom;
I have led you in right paths.
When you walk, your steps will not be hindered,
And when you run, you will not stumble.”

I have taught you in the way of wisdom;
I have led you in right paths.
12 When you walk, your steps will not be hindered,
And when you run, you will not stumble.
Proverbs 4.11-12

John 11.9-10

I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
John 8.12

“And they have caused themselves to stumble in their ways,
From the ancient paths,
To walk in pathways and not on a highway”

They have burned incense to worthless idols.
And they have caused themselves to stumble in their ways,
From the ancient paths,
To walk in pathways and not on a highway

[ Jesus Warns of Offenses ] “But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea.
Mark 9.42

“It is good neither to eat meat nor drink wine nor do anything by which your brother stumbles or is offended or is made weak.”

It is good neither to eat meat nor drink wine nor do anything by which your brother stumbles or is offended or is made weak.

They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them.
1 John 2.9-10

“So He will make them stumble over their own tongue.

Preserve my life from fear of the enemy.
2 Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked,
From the rebellion of the workers of iniquity,
Who sharpen their tongue like a sword,
And bend their bows to shoot their arrows—bitter words,
4 That they may shoot in secret at the blameless;
Suddenly they shoot at him and do not fear.
5 They encourage themselves in an evil matter;
They talk of laying snares secretly;
7 But God shall shoot at them with an arrow;
Suddenly they shall be wounded.
So
He will make them stumble over their own tongue.
Psalm 64.1-5, 7-8

“When the wicked advance against me to devour me, it is my enemies and my foes who will stumble and fall.”

When the wicked advance against me to devour me, it is my enemies and my foes who will stumble and fall.
Psalm 27.2

Do not rejoice when your enemy falls,
And do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles;
Lest the Lord see it, and it (be evil in His eyes) displease Him,
And He turn away His wrath from him.”

Do not rejoice when your enemy falls,
And
do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles;
18 Lest the Lord see it, and [c] it (be evil in His eyes) displease Him,
And
He turn away His wrath from him.
